I didn't even know this existed before a friend told me about a location in San Francisco. It was just a month before I really had a chance to experience a gong sound bath where I got to play a little and learn I needed a large gong in my life. I visited the gong shop and spent an hour playing all gongs while learning for the first time about the different ones. I made a 2nd appointment and was able to meet with an employee who plays gongs regularly and shared tips on mallets and set up. He even brought extra friction mallets they didn't have in stock to show me what is possible with the gong. I left with a large purchase, but I am so excited. The owner was very gracious and even tried to help me by finding stools I could buy from their rental department. Ultimately. decided to wait as I sat on a nice one in the shop and prefer that over what they had available. But all employees are knowledgeable and kind to work with. I really appreciate the hour appointment approach so you can take time reviewing options. It felt really nice having a person dedicated to assisting me versus walking into a shop where multiple people may be playing and vying for staff attention. I highly recommend scheduling an appointment if you are interested in gongs and want to learn more. It was an invaluable experience and feel confident I made the perfect purchase, something I couldn't' have done online.

Incredible selection of gongs and very friendly and knowledgeable professional percussionist owner. Highly recommend the private showing, an hour is actually a short time to experience all there is to offer, and we felt zero pressure to buy on the spot (or in our case to decide between the 5 favorites). We’ll be back soon to make 1 or 2 final selections. It’s tough to pick!

I had a lovely time at The Gong Shop during my 1 hour visit. Allison did a wonderful job at giving my time to explore the instruments on display and provide answers to all of my questions. It was so enjoyable to play such a variety of gongs. I now have my vision board much clearer because of this trip. One day I’ll be back to make that dream purchase. Thank you for providing the opportunity to play everything in person!
One suggestion: It is challenging to play a wide variety of mallets, for gongs and metal sound bowls. I was hoping to find a new favorite here, but the selection was limited. With everything being online, my only option is to order and ship what might be good, only to discover it’s not what I’m looking for, then have to ship back. I would def comeback to experience more samples of everything sound healing related in person, specifically mallets for metal bowls of all sizes.
