I had heard about the gong shop from friends for quite some time and when I finally made it to the LA showroom from San Diego there were very few gongs! Allison was helpful and loaned me some mallets and flumies to play the gongs in the showroom. Each one was so magical and its own way. I really enjoyed the opportunity to play the 72 inch gong and the large nipple gong in the corner. No wonder the showroom has been cleaned out! We need these instruments to settle our systems bring balance and connect us to the cosmos. My hour went by too quickly, and I did not wanna rush myself, but I definitely would love to own a gong from the gong shop. My favorite one today was the 32 inch gone from Nepal.

I didn't even know this existed before a friend told me about a location in San Francisco. It was just a month before I really had a chance to experience a gong sound bath where I got to play a little and learn I needed a large gong in my life. I visited the gong shop and spent an hour playing all gongs while learning for the first time about the different ones. I made a 2nd appointment and was able to meet with an employee who plays gongs regularly and shared tips on mallets and set up. He even brought extra friction mallets they didn't have in stock to show me what is possible with the gong. I left with a large purchase, but I am so excited. The owner was very gracious and even tried to help me by finding stools I could buy from their rental department. Ultimately. decided to wait as I sat on a nice one in the shop and prefer that over what they had available. But all employees are knowledgeable and kind to work with. I really appreciate the hour appointment approach so you can take time reviewing options. It felt really nice having a person dedicated to assisting me versus walking into a shop where multiple people may be playing and vying for staff attention. I highly recommend scheduling an appointment if you are interested in gongs and want to learn more. It was an invaluable experience and feel confident I made the perfect purchase, something I couldn't' have done online.

Incredible selection of gongs and very friendly and knowledgeable professional percussionist owner. Highly recommend the private showing, an hour is actually a short time to experience all there is to offer, and we felt zero pressure to buy on the spot (or in our case to decide between the 5 favorites). We’ll be back soon to make 1 or 2 final selections. It’s tough to pick!

I had a lovely time at The Gong Shop during my 1 hour visit. Allison did a wonderful job at giving my time to explore the instruments on display and provide answers to all of my questions. It was so enjoyable to play such a variety of gongs. I now have my vision board much clearer because of this trip. One day I’ll be back to make that dream purchase. One suggestion: It is challenging to play a wide variety of mallets, for gongs and metal sound bowls. I was hoping to find a new favorite here, but the selection was limited. With everything being online, my only option is to order and ship what might be good, only to discover it’s not what I’m looking for, then have to ship back. I would def comeback to experience more samples of everything sound healing related in person, specifically mallets for metal bowls of all sizes.

Great selection, great knowledge and explaination about the different types of materials, tuning and production of gongs.

My experience was wonderful and it flow perfectly, I had enough time to test the gongs and feel which one resonated more with me. Allison was a wonderful host too .

A great experience with Allyson at the LA shop. I enjoyed the tour and the various gongs on display...great to learn about the various metals the gongs are made of. Amazing how different sounding the tones and sustain on each gong is. It's great that I was able to play them all and figure out what I wanted in a private relaxed atmosphere.
